Jury duty

I can't believe it?!?!

I know many people who have never been called to jury duty. Some are young and some are old.
I have been summoned at least six times if not more. My husband has also been summoned several times. Why?? I thought this was supposed to be random? Is it because we lived in an area where there were many cases? Just our luck of the draw?? I wish I had that luck in other drawings. I hopefully will be dismissed due to my move to the country. We have our own small court house here in town, so I am hoping I am out of the other district. My first experience with jury duty was in Hartford and for a murder trial. Thankfully after being questioned I was not asked to sit on the jury.

**update**
You can be called multiple times, but if you have "served" within the last three years you can be dismissed. If you are summoned and don't have to show up for jury duty you have fulfilled your obligation for the three yrs. I have received several summons....Had to go to Hartford once, went through voi dire and everything, just wasn't picked. I received a summons when we moved in together and got dismissed because I moved out of the district I was summoned to. Was summoned within my three yr time frame 2x (nice) and When I was pregnant I was summoned so I got out of that because I was a new Mom. I think I was summoned another time or two and just didn't have to go. But seriously- WTH- why do I get picked all the time???????

I thought that if you were called again you can make a statement that you've already performed your duty and can be excused? I thought this was regardless if you actually sit on a jury or not....

I have been called once, but I never had to report. I think I'd actually like to sit a trial, but I would never be picked for a criminal one.

Jury duty out here is outrageous. I got called for the first time a year and a half ago and immediately got on a case. Ugh.

At least you didn't have to serve!

i have been called a few times...i have always wanted to serve...i either never had to report or the one time i did i was let out early saying the case i was there for was settled out of court...i almost still want to serve however now it would be very difficult between 3rd shift work and being home with 2 kids...jason sat on a murder trial once. that was after he told the judge the judicial system sucked and they should save everyones time and just hang all the bastards that go in front of a judge LOL. oh and the way they pick people is when you do something new such as buy a car, house, register to vote etc.

I have been called once. It was here in Florida. And the court system here is so backed up (nice! I am surrounded by criminals!) that you are only excused if you were selected in the last 12 months! And also as a result of the surplus of cases awaiting trial, you are almost guaranteed to be selected for a jury. I can tell you one thing: I would rather sit for a criminal trial than a civil one.
